Artisan Builders

Artisan Builders builds custom homes and restores and renovates antique Texas houses in Austin, Washington, Fayette and Colorado counties. Steve Jackson founded the company in 1988 as Steve Jackson Construction. A decade later, his son Tohner Jackson joined the growing business, which became Artisan Builders.

As custom builders who view home building as an art form, we love to be challenged and often seek out difficult or unusual projects. Over the past three decades, our work has varied in scope and approach—from building a 10,000 sq. ft. high-end residence to restoring a 19th century one-room schoolhouse.

Our core product is service, and we provide it with honesty, integrity and a great deal of pride.

Build

Although professional, personal service is the core of our product, the houses themselves are the physical manifestation of what we create. This gallery contains examples of the variety of size and style in our 30 years of built history.

Objectify

Along the way, Artisan has restored log buildings and early Texas homes and built the furniture to fill them. Several of our projects have given us the opportunity to use emerging technologies to create unique, client-specific buildings that continue to teach us.

Sustain

Where feasible, we integrate green approaches into all aspects of a project and put particular emphasis on holding down waste. We believe building homes for a long life of providing shelter is the greenest approach to justify the consumption of resources.

Current project

Artisan Builders current project. Taking a beautiful old timber frame barn and building an equally beautiful home around it. Stick around and find out how it turns out. #artisanbuilders#customhomes#custombuilders#txcountryhomes#timberframe#woodworkers

When we build, let us think that we build forever.
Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone.
Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for;
and let us think, as we lay stone on stone,
that a time is to come when those stones will be held
sacred because our hands have touched them,
and that men will say, as they look upon
the labor and wrought substance of them,
“See! This our father did for us.”
